Online POS

So what is an online Point of Sale Catalog?    Typically a point of sale system is a self contained computer and software system that handles sales transactions at the store level.   A web based catalog system handles sales via the web and typically has no connection to a Point of sale system.   Each time a sale is made in a web catalog the sale must be manually entered into a point of sale system in order to keep inventory accurate.

An online point of sale catalog system combines these two functions so that when products and prices are updated in a point of sale system, those changes are reflected electronically in the web based catalog system.  Likewise when sales are made on the catalog website, those sales and transactions are electronically passed to the point of sale system so that the 2 systems remain in sync with no manual input.

There are 2 ways to do this.  The point of sale system can be web based so that the catalog on the web is also a point of sale system on line.   In the store, the cashier is actually doing the same thing the person on the web is doing with the added feature of being able to use a scanner at the store level.  In this way there is no communication between 2 systems required in that they are one in the same.

The other way to do this is to connect the point of sale system to the web catalog system using a programming script that would run as required to keep the 2 systems in sync by passing the necessary data back and forth electronically at the end of the day or more often if required.

Infomedia can build either of these systems.   There are advantages and disadvantages of both and they cost about the same so it would just be a matter of determining which would work best for your business or organization.
